The holidays are here along with some snow! About 16" depending on where you are. Photo is from last weekend, up on Amabilis. Now, not to worry, the snowmobile track is from the groomer operator accessing equipment. The snowshoers walked on that side which is perfect. Nice clean skate lane in the middle and perfect classic tracks off to the right. All 3 uses can co-exist.
Well, with the recent storm, there is enough snow to start grooming, although not enough to be in full operation. As some of you are members of the Central Cascades Winter Recreation Council's Facebook Group and monitor trip reports, you've noticed Hyak to Crystal Springs finally groomed and those lucky enough to be out there loved it. The sled hill is still a bit thin so that remains closed. Please respect the signs posted for your safety.
Hyak: trail groomed, but sled hill is not until there is about another 20" in order to have a good base.
Crystal Springs: 54 road (Stampede Pass Rd) is now closed to wheels and grooming commenced. Crystal Dog Trail groomed. Watch for thin areas.
Erling Stordahl still needs more snow but groomers might move sleds over to try and get something rolled for holiday week.
The John Wayne Pioneer Trail will be groomed once a day until the sled hill gets enough snow. They will try to groom all the way to Easton Reload Friday (the 22nd) provided there is enough snow east.
Cabin Creek:
All trails are now groomed with snowcat and in good shape at Cabin Creek. South Loop will be attempted tonight.
Lake Easton State Park: not enough snow
Salmon La Sac: tried to get a report with no luck. That area tends to be a snow pocket so I expect there is at least some snow to ski on.
There will NOT be grooming on Christmas Day.
Tuesday Dec. 26th and Jan 2nd John Wayne Pioneer Trail and Cabin Creek will be on the schedule.
