Thank you to all of you for your interest in our winter trails! We reached our goal for now of $3500, and ended up recieving pledges for $8190! That was a welcome surprise! Now, we are still waiting on how to proceed as far as the grant is concerned and collecting on the pledges. If we get invited (grant has to pass to a certain level), to present, it looks that that will be March 1st. That is soon!
As for conditions, the base is holding up, but by most accounts, it is fairly firm. We need snow! This is why we have grooming though, and our operators work hard tilling and smoothing the ice and skating should be pretty good and fast. The sled dog trails were groomed Monday afternoon and then shortly thereafter snowmobiles drove all over before the grooming had a chance to set up. Snowmobiles are allowed, but.... This applies for all users be it skier, snowshoer, walker or snowmobile: Please don't follow the grooming if you have another route you can take. Allow an hour to pass so the snow can set up and then it will last a lot longer and ski faster. Grooming is expensive.
A new program this season; a bit of grooming at Iron / Hovey Creeks at the base of Blewett Pass. Heading to Leavenworth via Cle Elum, Iron Creek is where the highway makes a turn to the right and starts to climb. Parking is limited. Here is the groomer report:
"1/30/19 – Groomed and set three miles of track on Iron Cr Rd., FS 9714; 18-24” base, groomed out nicely; temps low – mid 30’s, partly sunny; Grooming stops just below Iron Cr. trailhead. Note: limited parking and no facilities at site. Did not have time to groom Hovey Cr."
USFS groomed Salmon La Sac on Tuesday, Hovey Cr. on Wed, and then back to Salmon La Sac today.
